The “African Research Cluster on Logistics and Supply Chain” (ARCLoS)
Dear ARCLoS members,
Today I have some special news for all of you. I would like to inform you about a study that has just been published which is titled "The Future of Logistics Networks with African Countries: Embracing the Potential". It examines the role of logistics in the development and global networking of the African continent and is the product of a cooperation with the Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana) the University of Rwanda and the Chair of Logistics at TU Berlin.
The study analyzes the current state of logistics in sub-Saharan African countries and identifies challenges that need to be overcome, including high logistics costs, inefficient processes, inadequate infrastructure and more. Country comparisons of Ethiopia, Rwanda and Ghana illustrate the specific logistics requirements for the region. The studies also focus on the role of logistics in intra-African trade and the development of logistics corridors. The studies are linked to the requirements of selected industries (automotive, food and textile industries) as well as digital technologies and their status quo. Clear fields of action for improving logistics performance and a roadmap are derived. Recommendations for action are given on how process and network design, digitalization and environmental and social sustainability should be driven forward in order to improve logistics performance. It becomes clear that the important future topics of economic and social transformation can only be addressed through joint cooperation between industry, science and politics.
The study was made possible by the support of the Kühne Foundation and cooperation with various companies, associations and institutions. The study is accompanied by additional materials that include in-depth country analyses as well as case studies that can be utilized for teaching and training. The study and the additional materials can be found here: https://www.tu.berlin/
In case of further questions, the core team of authors is at your disposal.
Best regards
Benjamin
